When one thinks or hears of Indiana, nature photography is not likely a topic that comes to mind. Indiana does not possess the type of topography that many seek in their pursuit of nature images. There are no colossal mountains, deep oceans, vast canyons, awe-inspiring waterfalls, or summit vistas that provide endless views of the surrounding landscape. Indiana may not possess many of the ingredients that photographers seek, but we do share a border with one of the great lakes - Lake Michigan. We have an occasional waterfall and a shallow canyon here and there. Still, Indiana does not have the terrain features on a scale that would cause photographers to migrate from afar in search of nature images. Simply stated: Nature photography in Indiana is a challenge. This is made even more challenging by the fact that there are is limited public accessible land for searching out nature images. So, why bother? Because I thoroughly enjoy awaking before dawn in anticipation of coming across a scene during the right conditions to record a successful image. Indiana does possess natural beauty; one just has to search a little harder to discover it.
